The OneSub story, so far…
4 min readOct 25, 2022
I’m quite often asked about OneSub — my attempt to fix the news.
Being quite a verbose, tangent-oriented person can make responding to everyone quite time-consuming. So this article is going to serve as a little history primer for anyone who’s curious.
If you have further questions I’m always around here, to answer them.
Why?
Because I believe the following are all equally true:
- Effective public interest news is essential to a functioning democracy.
- Everyone’s opinions are conditioned by the information we consume.
- Diversity of experience & awareness leads to broad-mindedness.
- Attention economics is diametrically opposed to diversity or nuance.
- .. and everything in moderation.
Taking all those things together, I believe that we’ve built a society conditioned by media that we economically incentivise to be polarising.
So I’m trying to build new ways to fund and consume news that try to do a few significant things:
- Deliver alternative funding incentives for publishers & journalists.
- Redistribute media funding deeper into real stories & experiences.
- Broaden readers’ perspectives about the world we share.
- Reduce reader stress & anxiety while improving comprehension.
- … and make news…
